Towards the end of 2018 The Junction and Towards Understanding and Healing commissioned poet, playwright and filmmaker Damian Gorman to write a piece considering the 50 years since the beginning of the Troubles. Damian engaged with local community and schools groups, facilitating workshops and sessions which ultimately led him to writing Field Notes.
This poem was commissioned from me as part of a process of engagement with people in derry/Londonderry – many of them critically affected by living through the ‘Troubles’; others not even born until this century. The process was organised by Towards Understanding and Healing and The Junction, and was funded by the Community Relations Council, and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ireland.
